What to see and do...

Panoramic sea views and majestic mountains

Gaeltacht na nDéise is a rural place with panoramic sea views and majestic mountains rising in the background. It has a famous fishing heritage but is blessed too with rolling fertile fields. From here premium oysters go to France, beef and milk to far flung places. Emigrants leave this place reluctantly and return regularly. There is no denying either, that in this place, ‘ceol is in the soul’.

The people of Gaeltacht na nDéise welcome all wholeheartedly, share selflessly but protect that which is precious. At its core is the village of An Rinn stretching from pub to post office, down to the fishing harbour called Helvic Head. Its neighbouring place of Sean Phobal has the community centre at its heart and the rugged cliffs with nestling seabirds at its rim.

Here the Irish language is precious and its importance proudly and passionately promoted. For more than a century, students from far and wide, have passed through the gates of Coláiste na Rinne, eager or encouraged to learn, improve and embrace all the richness of the Irish language. Gaeltacht na nDéise is home to musicians, singers, artists, film makers, historians and story tellers. Refinement and ruggedness exist cheek by jowl.
