Walking and Cycling
There’s no better way to get to know Gaeltacht na nDéise than by foot or bike. The 6 Km Coinigéar walk out along the sandy spit and back is a walk loved by locals and visitors alike.

Waterbased Activities
The spectacular coastline enveloping Gaeltacht na nDéise presents countless opportunities for locals and visitors to enjoy waterbased activites from swimming, snorkelling, canoeing, fishing and kite surfing.

Birdwatching
One of the best places for bird watching in Waterford is the Coinigéar sand spit. In terms of diversity and numbers the Coinigéar is the top site for rare waders such as little Ringed and American Golden Plover.

Famine Graveyard
Dating from 1845, the multiple remains of those who died in the great famine are laid to rest here.

Fenian Monument | Leac na bhFíníní

The monument, located near Helvic Head, commemorates the failed attempt to land arms in 1867.

Mine Head Lighthouse

Built in 1851 by the Commissioner of Irish Lights and still in use today.

Ballynamona Court Cairn

Ballynamona Court Cairn is a megalithic tomb dating from the Bronze Age. To visit the site, the permisson of the land-owner is required.

Seanchluain Graveyard

This historic graveyard includes gravemarkers dating back to the mid 18th century.
